this is my 'bedside' radio setup - i have serious insomnia and sometimes nothing more than
combing through the shortwave bands listening to north korea and burma does the trick
bottom left is my realistic pro-2004 scanner w/ full mods, above that is a lowbander kit from
ramsey for converting VLF signals to be heard on higher bands, next to the 2004 is my homebrew
antenna preselector, broadband rf amplifier (ramsey sa-7), bandpass/stop filters - check out robert betts

above that is my trusty DX-160 - i picked it up on ebay in o shape in its own box and w/ manual - i have changed out
every single capacitors in it (electro/ceramic/etc), i have deoxited it to hell and bac - i have restrung it - and i have
fully tuned it from top to bottom - i get some crazy stuff on here -heres an mp3 from the 5-7mhz range -

my mom bought this hallicrafters s-38D somewhere in the mountains of new mexico
outside of alamagordo - it was missing the front glass and display - its regulator tube was shit
i have replaced all capacitors, several resistors, the power cord (check out http://www.the-s38-guy.com/)
but also got a new cardboard back from www.retro-tronics.com - i bought a heathkit RF generator (below)
and i retuned this radio from head to toe - i got a new glass front and display from http://www.fairradio.com/ (wow what a catalog) - this is one classic great receving shortwave/am radio - once again am 1030 am rules on it
found this radio totally broken - replaced the capacitors, two tubes
and redid the wiring and its working great - i listen to tucson az AM 1030 am on it
and its a dream - i painted this cool psychadelic glow in the dark stuff inside the clock
plastic - but when i was listening to it in the monsoon heat and tube heat it evaporated
the glow in the dark paint onto the plastic - so no viewable clock... sheet!
vhf air-band radio - only picks up airplanes and local airports - which is fun!
how wrong can a 4$ radio be - the case was destroyed and didnt work - got running with capcaitor change
outs and made a case out of a bad jesus painting
