i piced up a WSG pcb from ray wilson's www.musicfromouterspace.com - i made it - its great and horrible.
it had a lil area on the pcb to add extra circuit - so i built a 4030 based ring modulator - and then i made a 2watt
amp using a big magnet 4ohm speaker (same type as below) - i then added a distortion /fuzz circuit - and then i cloned
the lfo section from the commonsound.org tremulus lune vibrato - vactrol/knobs for symetry, spacing, smoothness, speed, depth - both the lfos are routed to a two way switch - so either the VCF or VCO 1 can be moded by one - or RES or VCO2 can be moded by the other - what a mess! here is a loud mp3 - it was recorded using a microphone placed above the unit.
www.notbreathing.com/wsgdelux.mp3

this is a 'triwave picogenerator' built following a schematic from www.commonsound.org
i have added a bandpass VCF w/ it's own lfo and a 2-watt amp with giant magnet 5" 4ohm speaker
super loud - its sister is the wsg delux above - i made the cases yes

two sets of three oscillator banks that cross modulate each other are fed into the x/y of a ring modulator based around a 4011 the output is then fed through ray wilsons cool lil single 1 opamp filter - then fed into a 2watt amp w/ nice sized speaker -
so many body contacts i cant remember how many - for doug theriault

this is a lil noisey box i made - it has a shift register acting like
a sample and hold w/ a lil noise source and some crappy oscillators
with a 1watt amp - and classy knob - for doug theriault

super abusive noise maker or drum synth - depends on the knobs
i built two of ray wilson's 'wacky zany sound generator' schems - with a filter then added a 3080 based VCA w/ a decay geneartor and many body contacts
has a super overdrive/crunch amp w/ speaker and external out - also trigger in for vca/decay

i built 6 oscilliators out of cheap cmos chips - fine tune trim pots inside plus 8 body contacts
next i made 12 super basic transistor oscillators - with a bunch of body contacts
next i made a simple bandpass filter - and added a cheap echo pedal i bought loca'ly (corned beef?)
put it all together with an amp - and it is the headsaw

Labels: the headsaw

based on schematic from pete at www.ciat-lonbarde.net
features 6 of the basic circuits - the solar cell just plays the hum of light bulbs and ambient light through the speaker - it's pretty noisy
Labels: mr grassi

small shortwave radio made from scratch - i wound the
radio coil around a bottle of stinky Herbal Laxatives - hence the name
picks up around 4-8khz

this unit contains three crackleboxes, three preamps, a giant speaker, three control knobs, an on / off switch, and 22 brass contacts for human interaction - unit is played with nothing but pressure and human touch - here is an mp3 example - this unit is what i think this is - but i cant be so sure - it makes me make that face

based on the steim kraklebox but features a fet buffer output deep wood case resonates bass very well - giant jewel lighted by led - this is a body contact only instrument with eight brass contacts
Horrible Insect Synth

it is a circuit bent 'cricket' circuit with an additional modulator with a total of 6 photocells for control. three bright LEDs follow the rate of the oscillators and in the dark are good for cupping your hand for playment. it has a small piezo speaker that really makes insect sounds - but also is mixed with a transistor noise source based on thomas henry design (3906) then passes through a passive bandpass filter to 1/4" output - click here for an mp3 - click here for a second mp3

i had these PCB/Circuit Board drink coasters in my living room. I kept looking at this one
cuz there were so many contacts going nowhere. So i soldered it up as a contact only synth.
It features a Main Oscillator, a LFO and a Noise Source. By touching different areas you can
raise and lower the pitch of the main vco, modulate it with the LFO, modulate it with the Noise,
modulate the LFO with the noise or vco, etc... there is a knob to set the 'main frequency' of both
the LFO and VCO - a three way switch turns it off - high mode - low mode - yellow led
click here for an mp3 - this unit is owned by my friend Carl Hanni

this is a simple Optical theremin using a Photocell for pitch control - the photocell is deep in the
plastic resin. when the resin was drying i added the 9v battery holder, led and RCA output
if i threw this at you from a few blocks away you'd prob still bleed

This is a Kraklebox built into a nice handheld case w/ power switch, 1/4" out, indicator LED and
big ass speaker. I built this unit for my friend Chris Cones. You can see him performing with it with any of his bands (Skullcaster, Earwicker, Content Provider, Not Breathing, Subarachnoid Space, Flange Du Mal, Neighborhood Bass Coalition, jesus he gets around... )

i built this for this guy Kyle Noneman - he had it for awhile and broke it and sent it back i pretty much rebuilt it from scratch again - Cmos based Oscillators (each has a knob) which then go through their own cmos suboctive dividers.these dividers have three control pots each (three subdivisions) these then both go through a cmos based ring modulator - and then out. there is a CV in that is tied to both oscillators. in the past i made MANY similar items I called Photon Boxes. these were the same but with far fewer knobs. they are all in the VAULT section
heres an mp3!

this unit is based on TWO 566 Dual 555 Timers. One photocell kind of effects pitch.
Another photocell does horrible phase/pulse width ripping. Mainly a nice paint job!

world's smallest theremin? i built this optic VCO into a matchbox that my friend pamela decorated. i could prob rewire it to use a smaller battery pack :)

This was a small insect circuit i found online years ago. I had built it and then modified it quite a bit. VCO and LFO Speed Knobs - a Cross Modulate Knob - two photocells inside the unit. Strange and crazy chirps and insect calls available. Inspired by Ghazala's Insect Synths

this is a simple theremin based on the 4069 chip - i forget where i got the schematic.
i had it here for a few months and found i never used it. some guy wrote that he wanted it.
i sold it to him for VERY VERY cheap. when he got it he opened it up to see what was inside
and forgot to attach the ANTENNE wire to the ANTENNAE (the metal plate) and told me
it was broken. after getting it, finding it wasn't broken but he had fucked it... i have not sold
an instrument since. i hope your happy

old martanz white noise/surf generator. someday this will prob be recased into my modular. on its own it had selection of white noise or noise through a VCA modulated by LFO. you have speed control, shape control, filter and vcf depth. you can see the stupid names i gave them above. i added a vactrol to sweep the filter w/ another lfo - also an external audio input + new switches/buttons/leds

this is a basic Optical theremin with three body contacts for modulating. many dead kids toys eyeballs made for Ron Chmara of Not Breathing

here is a cracklebox for my good buddy chris rolls (kimosciotic, flange du mal, earwicker, content provider, not breathing) - it has 12 Contacts - 5 Photocells, 6 switches, master power, momentary on and a big speaker. ouch
